Language Arts for IB/IP Students (Sec 1 to 4)

In the IP and IB courses, students are facing an increasing amount of pressure from the demands of the curriculum.

Never fear language arts again. We cater to a comprehensive training in language arts so as to build a repertoire of skills for your secondary school child. We provide dedicated support to students. Since year 2009, we have developed a number of top school students. These students have since progressed to top universities.

This course will cover the following components:
-Reading Comprehension
-Persuasive Essay Writing
-Essays for Literature
-Language Devices for Literature

What the course includes:

NARRATIVE COMPREHENSION
Teaching of techniques for different Narrative Comprehension genres. Students practise both at home and in class. Students are encouraged to pose questions, present ideas and formulate answers to increase their chances of practising exam-based questions.

LITERATURE: Analysing stories and characters
Includes the study of novels, proses, poems. Students write critical analysis of characters taught and comment on social, historical, empirical, cultural and political issues related to the themes in the materials.

LANGUAGE DEVICES
Identifying literary devices and applying their usage. Literary devices refers to the typical structures used by writers in their works to convey his or her messages in a simple manner to the readers. When employed properly, the different literary devices help readers to appreciate, interpret and analyse a literary work.

What are IP/IB programmes?

While the GCE 'O' Levels serve as a valuable intermediate benchmark for the majority of our pupils, those who are academically strong can benefit from engaging in broader learning experiences during their Secondary and JC years. The Integrated Programmes (IP) will provide an integrated secondary and JC education where secondary school pupils can proceed to JC without taking the GCE 'O' Level Examinations. Schools offering IP will optimise the time freed up from preparing for the GCE 'O' Levels to stretch pupils and provide greater breadth in the academic and non-academic curriculum. However, these schools will continue to have school-based assessments to measure pupils' progress.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, as an alternative to the GCE 'A' Levels, is recognised for admission to all Singapore universities globally. It is valued for its holistic curriculum and strong focus on independent learning and thinking for university studies, the work place and the all round development of young people for a fulfilling life. Its strong emphasis on internationalism, intercultural understanding and making a positive difference to the world fits well with the mission of certain local schools. The IBDP also empowers such schools to address the complexity and diversity of a rapidly changing world to become youth with a global outlook, while remaining strongly rooted in faith, values, culture and community.
